On 26 September 2025, CBE – Coopération Bancaire pour l’Europe (GEIE) organised, in cooperation with the Province of Sondrio, Italy’s national AGORA workshop on regenerative tourism. Held online, the session brought together twelve participants (nine for the full duration), including local administrators, tourism consortia, cultural associations, consultants and hospitality operators from Valtellina and Valchiavenna.
After an introduction to the Erasmus+ AGORA project and to the principles of regeneration, moving beyond “sustainability” to generate net positive impacts on communities, landscapes and cultures, participants worked in co-design on two tracks: creating a new regenerative tourism experience and redesigning an existing one.
Two concrete concepts emerged:
- “Authentic Flavours”: turning alpine dairies into multifunctional spaces for production, learning and hospitality (guided tastings, hands-on workshops, storytelling and digital content).
- “ViaSpluga Trail – regenerative version”: enhancing the historic route with community hubs along the way, small-scale environmental care actions and a digital companion with narrative mapping and a “trail passport”.
The discussion highlighted shared opportunities and challenges: limited resources, uneven community engagement, and the need for digital skills to support immersive tools and online storytelling. At the same time, participants expressed a strong willingness to collaborate on advanced training, local networking platforms and micro-financing models.
Post-workshop feedback indicates high satisfaction (between 4 and 5 out of 5), particularly for the balance between theory and practice and the usefulness of AGORA’s co-design templates. CBE will build on these results to explore pilot actions and share outcomes with partners, contributing to a European base of replicable regenerative practices.
